Since AIDS has penetrated the last Alpine valley and "infected those who are in love with change," the factory director must forgo partner swapping and prostitutes and return to his wife Gerti. Gerti wants to escape the sexual assaults, the routine, boring, deadly repetition of the same old thing. She is often dependent and sometimes ends up, drunk, at the police station. She cannot live her sexuality as a mother; motherhood and sexuality cancel each other out. Gerti falls in love with the idol Michael, a student who picks her up during one of her escapes, seduces and humiliates her according to all the rules of his young pickup artistry.
