Product details

Ludwig Meidner's apocalyptic landscapes are considered key works of urban expressionism. However, he also succeeds in capturing the spirit of the expressionist era in an unmatched and intense way in his portraits, particularly in the numerous self-portraits. The catalog of works documents over 200 paintings from the first phase of his artistic career, which begins in 1906 in Paris and ends in the mid-1920s with his "Walk into Silence." Brushes and palette are rarely used in the following 25 years, partly because the Nazis impose a painting ban on him as a Jewish artist, and later, during his exile in England, the material conditions for oil painting are lacking.
