Product details

Paul is sleeping. Lisa is not. Far down, deep inside, she feels a pain, a pain like she has never experienced before. This pain is not particularly strong, but it hints that there is much more to come, that this is just the beginning. Paul is sleeping. Lisa is not. The book does not tell the story of Lisa and Paul, who start a family in the depths of Emmental and have twins. The book also does not tell the story of Leo, the firstborn. The book tells the story of Louis, the one who is named first. Louis is simply Louis. He does not think for himself; his brother Leo does that for him. However, Louis perceives feelings in an infallible way; no one can fool him, he sees to the bottom of things. Louis does not speak. Or hardly at all. He expresses himself in double words: "Louis. Bread." This sounds so concise that everyone understands that everything has been said. Louis grows up happily in the world of Trubschachen until this happy world shatters one day. And so he sets off on a great journey that leads him along many paths and detours to Ireland, to Connemara, to an island that is not one. The book is a quirky, mischievous, cheeky, and at times sweet melodrama. We find ourselves in a perfect world, where things stumble here and there, in an imperfect world, where everything goes round and round, in a real world, where the impossible happens.
