Product details
When Lotte discovers bruises on her legs while taking a shower in the evening, she is surprised and goes with Mom to see Doctor Heilmann the next morning. He sends Lotte to the hospital because he has discovered black stones in her blood that have to disappear quickly. In the hospital, she learns a lot about the tiny building blocks in her body and about the chemo men who clean up what doesn't belong there. She gets to know other children who also have little black stones. She senses her parents worrying. When she is allowed back home, she is given medicine because she sometimes has a fever and feels like she is going up and down. When Lotte is finally able to celebrate being healthy again with all her family and friends, she has learned a lot about life. The young author of this sensitively illustrated family book has sought the advice of experts from several university hospitals in order to be able to explain to children aged four and older in an age-appropriate way what happens during a cancer illness, the different courses it can take and how it can be treated. In Germany, almost every second family is affected by some form of cancer. Every year, around 1800 patients develop the disease as children. Every year, that means 1800 affected families with parents, siblings, grandparents, relatives, friends, neighbors, colleagues, classmates and children in the same kindergarten. This encouragement book is written and drawn for all of them. With the kind support of the German José Carreras Leukemia Foundation and the German Children's Aid Association.
