Product details

"Lord of the Flies" is Beelzebub, as Baal Zebub, a demon in the Old Testament, symbolizing the susceptibility and - especially here - the readiness for violence of mankind. A group of schoolboys aged 6 to 12 is stranded on an island far from civilization. Two groups form, leading to a struggle for power and murder: "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!" With this theme, the book became a classic in schools. "Lord of the Flies" was William Golding's first novel and made him world-famous. In 1983, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature for it. This is an unabridged and unedited text edition in the original language, with translations of difficult words at the bottom of each page, a postscript, and literary references.
