Lone Survivor

On a starry night in late June 2005, four US Navy SEALs leave their base in northern Afghanistan heading towards the Pakistani border. Their mission: capture or kill a high-ranking Al-Qaeda leader who is believed to be operating with Osama bin Laden and hiding in the mountains. Lone Survivor is the story of Marcus Luttrell, the only survivor of Operation Red Wings. Not only do his three comrades die in combat against an underestimated enemy force, but the entire crew of the Special Operations Aviation Regiment sent to rescue them by helicopter also meets their end. Only thanks to the help of locals who take him in, care for him, and protect him from the Taliban does the severely injured Luttrell survive. His story is one of fear, death, and boundless suffering, but also of courage and loyalty, friendship and hope – and of the unwavering will to survive.
