Among the major cities of the world, London is by far the most popular travel destination. It is the unique blend of tradition and modern coolness that makes London so attractive. A way of life reflected in films like "Four Weddings and a Funeral" or "Notting Hill," but also in novels and stories that have themselves become film adaptations, such as Nick Hornby's "High Fidelity." The transformation of the metropolis is depicted by devoted Londoners like Alan Bennett or illustrated through the juxtaposition of texts from different decades. In hardly any other major city do people from different social classes live so closely together: the traditional upper class, newly wealthy upstarts, working-class individuals, and not least immigrants from former colonies who have developed their own distinct milieu – and yet strive for more.
