The method of solution-focused conversation differs significantly from problem-oriented conversation. Instead of exploring what is wrong and not working, it focuses on what clients desire instead of the problem, identifies exceptions to the problem, and builds on existing strengths. The goal of the book is to describe how conversation can be conducted simply and positively with a future-oriented focus. The manual explains step by step the practice of solution-oriented work. It demonstrates, among other things, how initial and follow-up conversations can be structured, how to handle failures and motivational issues in the conversation, and how to conclude conversations.
