Ernst Fuchs

This book traces the first 18 years of creative work of the century genius Ernst Fuchs: drawings and printmaking attempts of someone who has barely outgrown childhood, visionary, technically brilliant pencil drawings of the art academy student, and finally those graphic masterpieces that establish his fame as a leading figure of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism through their artistic achievement. In their extraordinarily nuanced texture, meticulous attention to detail, and a completely unmistakable visual language, they are a triumph of graphic formulation art. The visual documents are complemented by facsimiles of early letters and exhibition catalogs, poems, as well as mostly unpublished photographs. Accompanying these are interpretive texts by Ernst Fuchs, Walter Schurian, Annette van Rohe, and Friedrich Haider.
