Literatur und Kalter Krieg in der deuts

The war in Ukraine gives the Cold War a new relevance, and thus also the literary works from the period between 1947 and 1989. These works drew from the conflicts of that era and actively participated in them. The works of Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt testify to this worldwide. The present studies focus on them, as well as on the thematically and formally diverse creations of many other authors, including those from later generations, considering the entire spectrum of genres up to radio plays. Even the notorious civil defense book from 1969 is examined for its literary strategies. Eleven of the eighteen contributors have worked or are working as literary scholars outside of Switzerland, several of them in countries of the former Eastern Bloc. Their external perspective offers a special enrichment to this multifaceted volume.
