Western democracies are under pressure from both internal and external sources. On one hand, they are plagued by self-doubt about their future path; on the other hand, autocratic regimes are increasingly asserting themselves with confidence. How great is the danger of undermining our state model through an overemphasis on democracy, excessive moralizing, and rampant technocracy? How should we appropriately respond to the rising autocracies of Asia, such as China or Singapore? This book examines the evidently profound challenges facing democratic societies from a liberal-conservative perspective and attempts to provide some answers. Professor Dr. Rainer Lisowski is a political and economic scientist. He teaches at the University of Bremen and has worked in both the public sector and private industry.
