Product details
We are as foolish as our masters, but we are wiser. When Arlequin and Cléanthis realize that they have been chasing on the mythical island of the slaves, they don't want to believe it! Finally, for these two valets, the occasion has come to subdue their masters, Iphicrate and Euphrosine, for the mistreatment they suffered. But is vengeance just as savory? Is it an attempt to demonstrate violence? In this one-act play, Marivaux highlights, under the guise of comedy, the condition of the valets in relation to their masters, and more broadly, the attitude of the nobility towards the common people. He positions himself as a keen observer of his contemporaries, and "L'Île des esclaves" can be seen as a precursor to the Revolution.
