Lithuanian is one of the oldest languages in Europe, yet contemporary poetry from this Baltic country does not reflect that. The collection brings together poems that engage with the present. Excitingly new - rendered into modern German by renowned poets. Here, re-creation is understood as a creative act on the living poem. For Birute GraSyte-Black, "Childhood" is a stark place of horror. Vaiva Grainyte knows that "the tsunami is not a vegetarian" and that "every animal has its barcode." In his poem "As Far as the Fire Reaches," Donatas PetroSius appears bold and combative. Tautvyda Marcinkeviciute writes her "Letter to Sylvia Plath," while Nerijus Cibulskas wonders "who combs the unruly hair of the cello?"
