Lieb und teuer

For two years, Ilan Stephani works as a prostitute in a Berlin brothel. She creates an alter ego with which she explores this taboo fringe of society. The young woman approaches this completely unfamiliar world with curiosity and makes astonishing discoveries: instead of seeing whores and clients in the shadows, she experiences the brothel as a mirror of society. The people here struggle with the same fears, mechanisms, and labels as everyone else, only they deal with them more openly. The author describes a microcosm very honestly and thoughtfully, where she learned a lot about human peculiarities. Solidarity and openness are values that can be lived everywhere – then everyone would be better off, not just in bed.
