For some a dirty word, for others salvation Liberalism is a word with many meanings. Liberalism means the pursuit of freedom for everyone - but the unbridled, for example economic, freedom of some restricts that of others, its opponents accuse liberalism of. Since the theorists of the 18th century, many variants of liberalism have developed. These include, for example, the economic programme of the Chinese Communist Party, the radical demand for freedom of establishment for all migrants, or the policies of Emmanuel Macron or the FDP. In more than two hundred years, all kinds of often contradictory models have emerged from this idea, which is at once philosophical, legal, economic and political, but which has also always had a great impact. To explain this multifaceted doctrine to us, philosophy professor Pierre Zaoui, together with Romain Dutreix, has taken on the challenge of summarising this world concept for us.
