Product details

A Yiddish poet is rediscovered! We are introducing him to a German audience for the first time.
Thanks to his texts - primarily poetry - Lejb Kvitko, or Leyb Kvitko, is considered one of the leading authors of the Jewish cultural flowering in Eastern Europe in the 20th century. By the end of the 1930s, Kvitko was one of the best-known children's poets in the Soviet Union! In Russian translation, he was published millions of times.
Six poems make up the lovingly crafted cycle about the naive clumsy Lemml.
Due to his touching clumsiness, Lemml messes up everything, gets taken for a ride or is simply unlucky.
The illustrations were newly created by the Israeli illustrator Inbal Leitner, who lives in England.

All poems in German translation are accompanied by the original Yiddish text.
The translator Peter Comans has translated Kvitko very close to the original and yet found a contemporary lightness.
