Product details

This volume offers a basic introduction to the work of the Austrian writer Leo Perutz (1882-1957). The ten contributions are each devoted to one of Perutz's novels, from his first work Die dritte Kugel (1915) to the posthumously published Der Judas des Leonardo (1959); they provide information on the genesis of the texts, describe their structure and narrative device, and develop suggestions for their interpretation. The studies of the novels are supplemented by the previously unpublished novella Von den traurigen Abenteuern des Herrn Guidotto and a comprehensive bibliography on the work and its study. The collection of essays does not only introduce Leo Perutz's oeuvre, but also a way of dealing with literary texts that combines structuralist and hermeneutic traditions. The individual contributions are all based on the same principle.
