My Lac de Triomphe

Outside over the lake, a wall of clouds is rising. Deep and lower-hanging snow flurries. The world is turning dark gray. It’s already starting to snow. After a longer break - sweet Christmas, nasty flu - Jeanot, the "late-blooming net fisherman" (now just as a hobby, nurturing both fishing and peace), takes his usual spot at the bay of Lac de Triomphe as well as in the Engel and the Steinbock on Candlemas, and resumes his recordings. Fortunately. Because the gifted fisherman loves - like his award-winning author - "one thing even more than the waves of water: the waves that words can create, the sound bubbling up from consonants and vowels, the joy of playing with dialect, jargon, and street German" (NZZ). And the stories come to him effortlessly: in conversations with his wife and daughter, with friends and relatives, or during encounters.
