On 1 Advent 2018, after long preparatory work, the new order of worship texts and songs will come into force. It is a "moderate revision" of the previous order, introduced exactly 40 years ago. The new order preserves the centuries-old tradition of worship readings, especially the Sunday and feast day Gospels. Likewise, it continues to contain the sermon texts in six vintages. Three innovations will be particularly noticeable: the number of sermon texts from the Old Testament has nearly doubled and now comprises one-third; in the individual sermon years, Gospel, Epistle, and Old Testament texts now alternate from week to week; and each Sunday and feast day now has two songs of the week or day, including many more new songs than before.
