On the 1st Advent of 2018, the new order of liturgical texts and songs will come into effect after extensive preparations. It is a moderate revision of the previous order that was introduced exactly 40 years ago. The new order preserves the centuries-old tradition of liturgical readings, especially the Gospels for Sundays and feast days. It also continues to include the preaching texts in six cycles. Three changes will be particularly noticeable: the number of preaching texts from the Old Testament has nearly doubled and now makes up one third; in the individual preaching cycles, Gospel, Epistle, and Old Testament texts will now alternate weekly; and each Sunday and holiday now features two songs for the week or day, including many more new songs than before. The new order will be introduced into worship services in three publications starting from the church year 2018/2019.
