The author and professor Otto Nüßlin was a German zoologist and forestry scientist. Nüßlin's main field of research included the study of forest pests such as the bark beetles, on which he wrote the paper \"On normal swarming times and generational duration of bark beetles\" in 1882. In 1905, his main work, the \"Leitfaden der Forstinsektenkunde\", was published, in which he described the harmful forest insects and gave advice on their control. Beginning with the anatomy and physiology of insects, forest behaviour, aids for the recognition, assessment, defence and extermination of forest insect damage up to the detailed presentation of special forest insectology.
