Generally, the mass production of a new generation of DRAM is often seen as a milestone in a new era of semiconductor technology. As the term 'DRAM' suggests, it is a type of volatile memory, meaning that the stored data must be 'dynamically' refreshed to ensure proper memory function; each bit in DRAM can be accessed 'randomly' compared to a conventional tape recorder.
