Product details
Model, muse, artist, war photographer – Lee Miller lived many lives. Lee Miller (1907-1977) was one of the most important photographers of the 20th century. The photojournalist, war correspondent, and muse of surrealism, who was also a supermodel of her time, worked in the fields of photojournalism, fashion, portrait photography, and advertising. This high-quality volume presents 100 of her outstanding works and is released just before the premiere of the film about her life – starring Kate Winslet. The American Lee Miller was introduced to photography in the early 1920s and refined her craft starting in 1929 in Paris, where she mingled with surrealists and avant-garde artists like Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso. During her years with Man Ray, they jointly discovered the technique of solarization to create fascinating halo effects. In 1932, she established her own photography studio in New York, where she became a prominent advertising photographer, later moving to the Middle East and Europe, before becoming the official war photographer for Vogue in 1944, a time during which she created many of her iconic photographs. This opulent yet sensitive book gathers Lee Miller's most famous documentary, fashion, and war photographs, as well as images of Lee Miller herself as a model, carefully compiled by her son, photographer Antony Penrose. "Her legacy is extraordinary." Kate Winslet.
