Chief Inspector Martin Trevisan is back. After a decade-long odyssey from Hanover to Göttingen and finally to Oldenburg, Trevisan has returned to where he once set out: the homicide division of the criminal police in Wilhelmshaven. On his very first day at work, a whole family is brutally wiped out at a remote farm in Tengshauser Leide, just before the dike, at Jakobshof. Like a berserker, the murderer rampages through the isolated farm, leaving a bloody trail behind. Trevisan, who must readjust to his new environment and his new colleagues, is confronted with a barbaric act of cruelty. Profilers refer to the manner in which the perpetrator acted as overkill, and Trevisan knows that boundless hatred and an insatiable thirst for revenge can lead to such an act. The horror leaves behind only a few traces.
