Product details
Hans Küng is one of the few globally known and respected theologians of our time. The range of topics covered by his theological oeuvre is impressive, as is his lifelong commitment to ecumenism, church reform, interreligious dialogue and global ethics. On the occasion of his 90th birthday in 2018, companions and students attempted a review of the work and impact of this outstanding thinker. This volume documents that retrospective. The contributions included pay tribute to Hans Küng's multi-layered life's work from different perspectives and demonstrate the enduring significance of his thought. The volume opens with a keynote address by former EKD Council President Margot Käßmann on Hans Küng's birthday, "Reformation and Tolerance." This is followed by contributions from a symposium on the work of Hans Küng, written by the Catholic theologian Johanna Rahner on "Church and Ecumenism in Transition"; the theologian and Küng student Hermann Häring on "Hans Küng's Doctrine of Christ and God"; the religious scholar Perry Schmidt-Leukel on "Hans Küng's Impulses for the Theology of Religions"; the economic philosopher Claus Dierksmeier on the question "How to Convince Atheists and Agnostics of the Global Ethic". The book concludes with "Wege zum Weltethos" (Ways to a Global Ethic) by the theologian and Küng's companion for decades, Stephan Schlensog.
