The work on lifestyle conflicts of social minorities focuses on a neighborhood-specific conflict in Berlin: attacks primarily by Arab youth against homosexuals and their establishments. In the context of the discussion on cultural disintegration tendencies, it examines under what conditions coexistence of social groups with extremely different views on sexual freedom can function, but also fail. Based on Georg Simmel's theory of indifferent tolerance as a guarantee for peaceful coexistence of different individuals and lifestyles in large cities, the author Dr. Sabine Wortmann connects her thesis of the disintegration tendencies observed here to case studies. She tests the assumptions through expert interviews and a group interview with Arab youth. The book is also aimed at the regional audience.
