In this book, Achim Brosziewski presents a systems-theoretical sociology of education, which unfolds through the themes of life course, media, and learning. The book addresses learning, teaching, learning ability, instruction, teaching principles, competencies, education, aging, and uncertainty, all embedded in a sociological theory of media and communication that allows for tracing the societal contexts of these phenomena. At the center is the thesis that the life course can be understood, like money, power, love, and more, as a symbolically generalized medium of communication. Learning and its components come into focus when one asks about the forms that emerge within the medium of the life course and reproduce it.
