Resurrection of the dead? Immortality of the soul? Eternal life? The traditional religious language regarding death means nothing to many today. In a world in which people, including church members, agree with the scientific realisation that death is the end of man, must the Christian religion fall silent in the face of death? In four essays, the authors of this volume show that and how religious speech about death does not find its purpose in comforting man in an afterlife and how, nevertheless, there can be comfort in the imagery of religious language.
