Even in 2008, when the crisis was increasingly being discussed, the reactions from Romania were characterized by misunderstanding and indifference. "What crisis?" people wondered, as in Romania, "crisis" is essentially a permanent state. Since "crisis" refers to exceptional situations in the context of social change theories, and Romania has been struggling with ongoing economic problems, the question seemed quite justified. On the other hand, it should not be forgotten that the Romanian economy had just experienced a recovery. The aim of this book is to complement the numerous economic analyses of the crisis with perspectives from the humanities and cultural sciences. The volume offers nuanced insights into the effects of the economic crisis and seeks to encourage careful and thoughtful use of the term "crisis.".
