During a stay of several years in Dülmen, Clemens Brentano endeavoured to record with care the utterances of the visionary Anna Katharina Emmerich, which were sometimes fragmentary, sometimes in context. Thus he created a diary which, at the beginning of January 1820, presents a great variety of religious reflections on the life of the saints, on the celebrations of the Church, or on the circumstances of the times; later, however, in 1821 and 1822, it is more and more limited to the life of Christ and of the saints around him. The present volume describes the life of St. Mary and other important personalities from her surroundings of that time. This book is a high-quality reprint of the original edition of 1854, which has long been out of print.
