Leasing in der internationalen Rechnungslegung

Since 2005, European capital market-oriented companies have been required to prepare their consolidated financial statements according to uniform accounting standards, the IFRS. A significant standard in international accounting is IAS 17, Leases. However, this standard has been viewed critically for some time, primarily due to the non-recognition of assets on the balance sheet and the resulting potential to influence financial statements. Against this backdrop, the IASB has published a draft for a new regulation on lease accounting. The paradigm shift aimed for in the draft standard will have significant consequences for both lessees and lessors. The introductory chapter will provide an overview of the currently applicable standard IAS 17, followed by an explanation of the reasons for the necessity of this change.
