Product details

The intestine forms the largest boundary between the body and the outside world. Approximately one ton of nutrients is absorbed through an adult's intestine each year. At the same time, the intestinal mucosa serves as an important barrier against harmful substances such as allergens, pathogens, and pollutants like heavy metals. When this barrier function of the intestinal mucosa is disrupted and antigens can flow uncontrollably into the body, it is referred to as Leaky Gut, or permeable intestine. An increasing number of studies indicate that many diseases—ranging from chronic inflammatory bowel diseases to autoimmune disorders and even mental illnesses—are associated with Leaky Gut Syndrome. This book first describes the biomedical processes involved in Leaky Gut, and then establishes the connection to associated diseases in the next step.
