Product details
Trust, love, and patience are the best ways to support young children. What happens when parents, educators, and caregivers do not interfere in the motor development of infants and toddlers? Will they learn to crawl, sit, and walk on their own? These questions were posed by Hungarian pediatrician and early childhood educator Emmi Pikler. For decades, she observed children during her practical work and developed her educational method from these observations. Her findings are presented in her book "Give Me Time." First published in 1969, this guide has evolved through several editions into a classic of developmental pedagogy. Anna Tardos, child psychologist and Emmi Pikler's daughter, has thoroughly revised this standard work according to the latest medical knowledge.
- The foundational work of toddler education: how motor development occurs
- Holding the head up, turning, crawling, walking: how infants and toddlers learn
- Respect for the child's initiative and support for their independence
- Case study of Tibi and Attila: photo series show the developmental progress of a baby
- New edition in a modern, fresh layout for parents, educators, and medical professionals
Accompany and support, but do not intervene: children develop independently. Many parents have concerns when their babies and toddlers do not demonstrate motor skills by a certain time. This is completely unnecessary, as children possess certain abilities and a degree of independence from birth. Babies are by no means helpless or dependent when allowed to set their own pace in motor development.
Emmi Pikler encourages readers with her handbook to support children with love and trust as they develop their motor skills at their own pace. Through very illustrative examples and numerous photos, her book offers a wealth of inspiration.
