Product details

"Language in Motion?" is a comprehensive examination of the status of the Hungarian language in Romania. The work analyzes the origins, validity, and significance of the widely held belief that the Hungarian language is in decline. It highlights the daily use of the language as well as its role in public institutions and explores users' attitudes towards the language. Additionally, it analyzes the goals and activities of various Hungarian minority organizations. The research is based on work related to minority cultures in liberal democracies and addresses specific topics such as language dominance, language parity, language policy and planning, as well as bilingualism and diglossia. The study was conducted in three locations, including Tîrgu Mureș, a city with a significant Hungarian population, as well as in diasporic communities where Hungarians make up less than 20% of the population.
