Product details

New York, 1938. The time had finally come for Frida to hold her first solo exhibition in the United States as Frida Kahlo and not as Frida Rivera, thereby artistically emancipating herself from the cumbersome figure of her husband Diego. The opening was a success, and the key members of Manhattan's art world, including the famous cosmetics entrepreneur and art collector Helena Rubinstein and the painter Georgia O'Keeffe, celebrated her. The acclaimed fashion photographer Nickolas Muray also attended the event: the two were immediately drawn to each other, and Nick became her friend, lover, and confidant. However, Frida was married and had to go to Paris, where André Breton organized an exhibition dedicated to her and introduced her to the circle of Picasso and Kandinsky, paving the way for her well-deserved international fame. Yet Frida did not forget Nick, and her return to Mexico was not easy for him: she had to reflect and decide what to do now that a man had entered her life who respected her as a woman and artist and deeply involved her. After "Frida's Passion," Caroline Bernard pays tribute once again to the great Mexican painter with a unique portrait that sheds light on a lesser-known chapter of her exciting and tumultuous story.
