Product details

About two million years ago, the glaciers of the Ice Age began to shape the mountains into their current form. The Alps continue to grow approximately one millimeter in height each year. However, they are also subject to decay. Cold and heat weather the rock, while rainwater washes it away. Rock fragments tumble down steep cliffs. Glacial tongues and mountain streams carry away the debris and carve deeper into the stone. In the process, traces are revealed that tell the history of the Alps. The renowned photographer Bernhard Edmaier has captured aerial images of selected locations that reflect the complex and artistic structure of the mountain range and illustrate the current state of this ongoing geological process that has lasted for millions of years.
