Seyfried

Gerhard Seyfried, born in 1948, studied painting and graphics at the Academy for Graphic Arts in Munich. He had to leave the academy because he organized a strike against the emergency laws. After that, he worked as a freelance graphic artist and cartoonist, quickly becoming a comic icon of the alternative scene with his drawings for DAS BLATT, the first city newspaper of the republic. His posters were a staple in every shared apartment, and his "Cops Unwelcome" sticker, which greeted law enforcement right at the entrance, was just as common. In 1976, Seyfried moved to Berlin, where he had already become a cult figure in the left-alternative scene, which he caricatured like no one else. His humor, which was both intellectual and aggressively affectionate, served as a model for other artists, and his works were featured in publications and exhibitions worldwide.
