Product details
With the opening of the extension designed by David Chipperfield in October 2021, the exhibition space of the Kunsthaus Zürich has doubled. The true benefit of this expansion is the opportunity to showcase a significantly larger portion of the world-renowned collection of Switzerland's largest art museum. Art from the Middle Ages to the present can now be viewed in new, dynamic groupings and literally in a new light.
The Chipperfield building now houses the prestigious collections of Bührle, Looser, and Merzbacher, which are on long-term loan to the Kunsthaus Zürich. The formidable collection of French Impressionists, combined with the works owned by the museum, constitutes the largest collection of Impressionist paintings outside of France. Additionally, the works of Surrealism, post-war modernism, Pop Art, and contemporary art finally receive the space they deserve here.
Richly illustrated texts in this book illuminate central aspects of the collection and the curatorial concept of the new presentation. It is a highly attractive invitation to explore nearly 1000 years of art history in the new and renovated spaces of the Kunsthaus Zürich.
