Kunst und Kultur der Protobulgaren im Ersten Bulgarischen Reich

The book deals with architecture, stone sculpture and metalwork as well as graffiti drawings and products of arts and crafts from the early centuries of the First Bulgarian Empire, which are attributed to the protobulgarian ethnic element. Monuments from fortifications and secular buildings to sacral architecture are examined. In the field of stone sculpture, the relief of the horseman of Madara as well as round sculptures of lions are the focus of attention. The metal sculpture includes the treasure of Malaja Pereshcepina and the finds of Voznesensk and Nagyszentmiklós. The aim of the research is to compare the main features of these art monuments with corresponding monuments from the areas of the former stay of the Proto-Bulgarians. The history of its origin is analysed. A special focus is on the steppes around the Black.
