Almost all business models, including that of the home savings contract, are based on this principle. However, when external circumstances change, such as the capital market drifting into a low-interest phase, this principle can mean economic ruin for individual contract partners or seriously jeopardize an entire business model. For this reason, German home savings banks want to free themselves from unfavorable old contracts, leading to a massive wave of cancellations. In Austria, such a wave of cancellations has not occurred. The reason for this lies in the sophisticated contract design of Austrian home savings banks. This book compares the different contract designs of home savings contracts in Austria and Germany and analyzes their impacts. Finally, it sheds light on and examines the various legal and contractual grounds for termination by credit institutions in Germany and Austria.
