Kritische Umweltpsychologie

To understand socio-ecological crises and find responses to them, psychological knowledge is necessary. However, current psychology falls short of its potential. By adopting various perspectives from the largely unknown field of critical environmental psychology, the authors highlight the potentials and necessities for how psychology must change. First, the significance of the multiple social and ecological crises of the present for the self-understanding and role of psychology is discussed. Subsequently, decolonial and intercultural perspectives expand the epistemology, themes, and findings of contemporary psychology. In addition to a critical environmental psychology perspective on current phenomena in society, projects with an emancipatory claim are also outlined, suggesting how critical environmental psychology can operate in practice.
