Kritik der postkolonialen Vernunft

In this book by the renowned Indian-American literary scholar, the focus is initially on the critical examination of influential and consequential philosophical approaches since Kant, which establish the Central and Western European perspective as the human norm through constructs of inferiority. Such a colonial political normalization, along with its "natural" thought structures, requires a deconstructive critique. It is then demonstrated through relevant literary texts how colonialism and postcoloniality take shape: Charlotte Brontë, Mary Shelley, Charles Baudelaire, Rudyard Kipling, Jean Rhys, Mahasweta Devi, John M. Coetzee. The task is to turn to the history of the fleeting present as a differentiating event: our culture - the interplay of multiculturalism and globality.
