Statistically speaking, a criminal offense or crime occurs in Germany approximately every six seconds. There are thefts and robberies, assaults and murders, fraud and burglaries, extortion and bribery, rapes and vandalism, drug trafficking and the disposal of hazardous waste, preparations for terrorist attacks, or breaches of computer systems with malware. Does crime dictate everyday life? Is the country heading towards the abyss? Can one no longer be secure in life and property? Or is it perhaps not as dramatic as it seems? Various aspects regarding the reasons and conditions of crime are discussed by experts from both science and practice, as well as a deeper examination of specific areas of crime (environment, drugs, economy, etc.). Additionally, the book provides information on police crime control, penal enforcement, support for victims of crimes, and criminal policy.
