2041. A probe disappears without a trace on Jupiter's moon Ganymede, where it was supposed to study the ocean beneath its icy crust. NASA holds programmer Bavin Joshi responsible, as he was in charge of the probe's software. Bavin defends himself and is surprised to find that no one is interested in the truth. The entire mission seems to be shrouded in a dark secret that he might be better off not uncovering. At the same time, marine biologist Isabella Ramirez, aboard the cruise ship MS Geiranger on an expedition in the Antarctic Ocean, makes an initially fascinating but then frightening discovery: the krill, which forms the basis of life on Earth, is behaving increasingly aggressively. While this stabilizes the population of the tiny crustaceans—a good piece of news—the genetic change does not appear to be coincidental, and soon it becomes clear that the force behind it has far more threatening plans. A realistic science fiction thriller that could very well take place.
