John Maynard Keynes, born in 1883 and died in 1946, is regarded as the preeminent economist of the 20th century. His critique of the Treaty of Versailles made him famous overnight in 1920. With his writings on inflation and monetary policy, he became one of the fathers of the modern world currency system. Joachim Kalka, born in 1948, lives as an author, critic, and translator in Leipzig. The German Academy for Language and Poetry awarded him the Johann-Heinrich-Voss Prize for his translation work and elected him as a member in 1997. Numerous collections of his essays and translations from English and French have been published by Berenberg.
