Kränzler:Mariens Käfer

The painter and author Lisa Kränzler creates an art fairy tale inspired by the painting "The Paradise Garden" by the Upper Rhine Master from 1410/1420. This tale focuses on the insect in the upper left corner of the image, which has yet to be precisely identified. Kränzler transforms it into Mary's sky-blue beetle, the ladybug, and imagines how it came to have its red dress with black spots. We first meet a diligent crawler who tends to the flowers in the garden. The scent of roses and the love of the Virgin Mary seem to be all he desires. However, secretly he is plagued by doubts, and his longing for "Different and Elsewhere" drives him one day out of paradise and into the arms of a cunning rascal. Just as the painter of the artwork combines the depiction of a closed pleasure garden in a soft style with realistic observations of nature, Lisa Kränzler intertwines her adventure story with facts, analyses, and precise self-observation. Thus, the art fairy tale becomes a reality.
