Product details

In connection with the new film adaptation (2008), 'Krabat' was brought into the vicinity of 'Harry Potter', in that especially the fantastic elements, the mysterious scenery and the work of both protagonists as 'sorcerer's apprentices' were given prominence. However, the Krabat saga cannot be understood as a parallel world to 'Harry Potter'; rather, it possesses a remarkable originality that sets it apart from all other magical worlds. The Krabat Saga is the most important poetry of the Sorbs (Wends). It has been told differently by various writers (Jurij Brezan, Mercin Nowak-Neumann, Otfried Preußler) and has been transferred into many media (audio book, radio play, drama, ballet, feature film, animated film). The Krabat story has elements that predestine it to become a children's literature classic and an attractive favourite read for children and young people. Its fantastic character, its conflict-ridden and exciting plot, its historical and ethnic background guarantee interesting lessons that can be designed for grades 3 to 9 due to the different layout of the various Krabat versions. In addition to interpretations of the different versions of Krabat and their media realisations (films, audio media, illustrations), the volume offers detailed teaching models for grades 3 to 9. In addition to the design of teaching materials (worksheets, figures for shadow theatre, visual material), the possible uses of which are shown in detail within the models that have been tested several times, there is a detailed explanation of pupils' achievements (letters to figures, diary notes, inventing after-stories). The possibilities of interdisciplinary teaching (science, history, geography, music, art, ethics) are particularly emphasised and linked with information on the history and culture of the Sorbs as well as the genesis of the Krabat material (Chapter VI).'.
