Andy Merrifield, a scientist and renowned non-fiction author, leaves New York at the peak of his career and moves to a remote village in the Auvergne. There, he embarks on a walk that forever changes his perspective on life. By his side is Gribouille, a donkey. He is Merrifield's silent companion and teacher. After initial impatience, the author—and with him the reader—begins to attune to the donkey's rhythm and starts to understand how meaningless all the urgency and hustle of the modern world are.
