Scientific progress is unstoppable. Since the 2nd edition there have been significant developments in the fields of cosmetics and hygiene products as well as in neighbouring disciplines. For the new edition the chapters have therefore been fundamentally revised and updated. New biochemical findings on processes in the skin, physical or physico-chemical measuring methods for the determination of efficacy, new formulation techniques in product development, further optimization of consumer and environmental protection as well as the current status of EU legislation play a major role. Newly included are the chapters on the definition and evaluation of cosmeceuticals, new findings in the research on ageing skin and the production of perfume oils. The book provides a broad overview of cosmetic and hygiene products from research to development.
