Konzentrative Bewegungstherapie

The series "Practice Psychotherapy" sheds light on the psychotherapeutic methods recognized in Austria and presents compact and comprehensible foundational knowledge, the latest developments, and practical applications. Volume 4 focuses on Concentrative Movement Therapy (KBT), where psychotherapeutically guided stimuli for bodily perception and movement while walking, standing, sitting, and lying down serve as the basis for differentiated self- and relational experiences with oneself and in encounters with others. The psychodynamic orientation of KBT allows for an understanding of the connections between current experiences and behaviors with individual life and learning histories. Painful experiences and behaviors can thus be psychotherapeutically captured and processed, while new and helpful experiences can be stimulated, internalized, and utilized in various ways. The introduction to the development history of KBT links Elsa Gindler's movement work from the 1920s with the clinical and theoretical foundation as an independent psychotherapeutic method, which has also proven effective in working with severely mentally ill patients. Current expansions of KBT enable the connection of bodily experiences with psychodynamic diagnostics in the therapeutic process. Case studies provide insights into intervention possibilities for patients with different issues.
